Job Objective

The Composite Manufacturing Technician is responsible for manufacturing composite parts in a team oriented work environment using specialized equipment. The position involves utilizing various molding techniques to modify carbon, glass, kevlar, and other fibers, fabrics and resins to create parts and structures according to project specifications.

Qualifications

1. High school diploma or equivalent required. Specialized training or prior experience in manufacturing or a related field is preferred. Industry certifications are preferred but not required. 

2. Basic computer skills and ability to demonstrate the use and Microsoft Office programs required.  

3. Proficient with mechanical machinery skills is required. 

4. Demonstrated ability to utilize power and hand tools, up to including, but not limited to: scissors, utility knives, heat guns, drills, sanders, grinders, and molds to create parts by mixing different materials and textures, or other basic mechanical tools as required.

5. Must follow written directions according to company specifications and also clean assemblies before and after production.

6. Proven ability to complete tasks in a precise and accurate manner.

7. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with customers, co-workers, and supervisors. Strong interpersonal skills are also important to explain the creation and troubleshooting processes to coworkers. 

8. Must be able to read work instructions, drawings, blueprints and other sketches to fabricate parts from composite prepregs, and apply resins and reinforcements in specific quantities. 

9. Demonstrated ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and write reports to support making data driven decisions. 

10. Ability to exhibit sound judgment and looks for ways to improve and promote quality while demonstrating accuracy and thoroughness.

11. Ability to work well in a team environment.

Job Duties

  1. Operate manufacturing machinery.
  2. Assemble, fabricate and repair products from composite parts and materials.
  3. Lay out composite materials for molding.
  4. Fabricate and prepare molds per work instructions, drawings or blueprints.
  5. Trim, cut, and sand using industrial tools.
  6. Log, track, record and document materials, quantities, completed work, and products as required.
  7. Write reports according to observations and results and communicate detailed progress to the  manufacturing supervisor.
  8. Repair machinery if necessary. Always following strict safety guidelines is required.
  9. Ensure product is made to specifications and meets quality guidelines.
  10. Order new supplies for manufacturing as necessary or required.
  11.  Work with other technicians to complete production objectives in a timely manner.

Schedule

Generally, the schedule is Monday-Friday during the day 8am-5pm; however, certain events may require flexibility to ensure no disruption in services is experienced.  

Work Environment 

Primarily works indoors in a manufacturing environment equipped with various tools.  Requires high attention to quality, detail and deadlines. Due to equipment running, the environment may be moderate -noisy, but routine safety procedures have removed most of the risks. Appropriate PPE up to including, but not limited to: goggles and steel toed boots are required.

4.     Positions and secures work piece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixtures.

5.     Moves controls to position tool and work piece in relation to each other, and to set specified feeds, speeds, and depth of cut.

6.     Starts machine, directs coolant or cutting oil flow, and feeds tool to work piece or vice versa, and engages feed.

7.     Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machined work piece to specifications.

8.     Operates bench grinder to sharpen tools.

9.     Operates machines and equipment other than machine tools.

10.  Grind, sand, clean, or polish objects or parts to correct defects or to prepare surfaces for further finishing, using hand tools and power tools.  Measure and mark equipment, objects, or parts to ensure standards are met.

11.  Ensure that parts are machined to specifications and meets quality guidelines.

12.  Compile, code, categorize, calculate, tabulate, audit, or verify information or data.

13.  Record product and processing data and information on specified forms.

Current schedule is Monday – Thursday, 10 hour shifts (day shift and evening shift) Friday – Sunday 12 hour shifts (weekend shift), however shift schedules may vary and require flexibility as demanded by business requirements.

Objective

Directs and coordinates activities of production departments in manufacturing products.  Plans and coordinates production schedules to fulfill sales orders, meet inventory requirements, and deliver manufactured products in a timely fashion.  Manages production staff.  


Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree and 8 years related manager experience in high precision, high-tech and low tolerance machining manufacturing environments and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

2. Project management experience from idea generation to construction and start-up for projects from $500K to $150MM+ preferred.

3. Experience synthesizing complex or diverse information and experience with ISO requirements preferred.

4. Experience in the Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques preferred.

5. Demonstrated ability to develop project plans, coordinate projects, and communicate changes and progress.

6. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret procedures while developing a strategy to achieve organizational goals. 

7. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 

8. Proven ability to communicate effectively with managers, vendors, customers, and employees while working well in a group problem solving situations.


Job Duties  

1. Reviews   production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types,   quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in   order to plan department operations.

2. Plans   production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for   manufacturing products.

3. Prepares   operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure   production and quality of products meets specifications.

4. Reviews   production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and   maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.

5. Inspects   machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum   utilization.

6. Develops   or revises standard operational and working practices and observes workers to   ensure compliance with standards.

7. Manages   policy/procedure deployment in the areas of Lean Manufacturing techniques,   quality, cost reduction, complete and on-time delivery, safety, customer   satisfaction, visual controls and plant performance measures. 

8. Provides leadership for   employee relations and problem resolution through effective communications,   coaching, training, and development. 

9. Manages material   requirements to increase inventory turns and reduce levels on hand. 

10. Ensures compliance with organization standards for cost control,   waste reduction, quality, OSHA, safety, and complete and on-time delivery at   the lowest possible cost. 

11. Balances work cell capacity/loading across the plant. 

12. Determines operation headcount needs and ensures compliance with   Company guidelines.

13. Manages compliance with state and federal regulations. 

14. Provides engineering solutions for   existing and future product and production processes.

15. Produces Solid Works and MasterCam   applications to aid in building new products and machining parts.
